Helena's Flamenco and Spanish dance school

Helena is a Council for Dance Education and Training Accredited Teacher, is CRB/DBS checked, an Equity member, and insured with Equity.

Helena "La Leyenda" has been dancing Flamenco for over 30 years and has been teaching for more than 25 of them. She studied Flamenco and Spanish Classical and Regional Dance in Spain spending many years learning and perfecting her art in the major Flamenco schools in Madrid, Sevilla and other cities in Spain with a variety of teachers at, for example, Amor de Dios in Madrid— widely considered to be Spain’s leading Flamenco school—and teachers in Sevilla and Cordoba.

Among others she has studied with such respected teachers as La Tati, La Truco and Immaculada Ortega and, among more contemporary dancer/teachers, such Flamenco luminaries as Rocio Molina— voted Best Flamenco Dancer in Spain 2010 in a national poll — Farruquito, Rafeala Carrasco, Hiniesta Cortes, Manuel Linan, Marco Flores and Juan Polvillo.

Helena "La Leyenda" was formerly resident Flamenco teacher at Sadlers Wells during the Flamenco Festival.

Helena teaches weekly classes and workshops for children and adults throughout Southern England and in intensive courses in Spain. Helena created the Bursaries for Boys scheme, offering initial lessons for free to encourage boys aged 4 to 16 to take up flamenco dance.

Helena teaches Flamenco and Spanish Dance, including Classical and Regional dances, technique and choreography, and the use of castanets, bata de cola, fans, shawls, etc.

Private tuition is also available for children and adults at beginner & intermediate levels and exam classes are available for children.

Dance Bursaries for Boys aged 4-16 years

There have never been enough boys joining in dance classes, a situation that persists in all dance forms.

Now, due to the generosity of Chichester artist Pam Dickson, I am able to offer discretionary 3 month bursaries of entirely free tuition for boys aged 4-16 years of age in the following locations, Eastbourne, Lewes, Brighton, Worthing, Chichester. These classes may be the first rung on the ladder to a professional dance career.

Pam Dickson, a professional artist and former pupil, has generously provided funding for the scheme by painting a set of 8 greetings cards and donating all rights in the cards to the scheme, a very generous gift. The cards are now on sale at London’s Sadlers Wells theatre and will soon be appearing in selected shops in Sussex. ALL profits from the sale of the cards will go to support the scheme.
